Amongst the various modes of education, the distance and correspondence programs have gained much popularity in the recent times.
Unlike the older times, when the students had only a single option of attending full time lectures, today most of them can be found to have enrolled in multiple courses offered by Institutions extending distance education and e-learning programs.
The popularity of these programs owes to the ever ending need of gaining specialization, in this era of cut-throat competition. Where affordability, ease of study, and flexibility are some of the advantages offered by a typical distance program, a major advantage related to its structure being just the same as a regular program, cannot be ignored. However, it has been found by much research and study that until today, distance education programs were considered to be a bit low on the credibility scale as compared to the regular courses. However, a recent news floated by the University Grants Commission (UGC) has changed the way now distance education programs would be looked at. With the latest developments it has been expressly announced by the University Grants Commission(UGC), that from now on wards, any distance program shall be treated equivalent to a regular degree program, provided it bears recognition under the Distance education Council(DEC), and is offered by an Institution , registered under the University Grants Commission (UGC).
This latest development has brought a gush of happiness in amongst the students, as well as the Institutions offering these courses. Further, it can be construed, that in the coming years, the number of students getting enrolled in the distance education programs is going to get increased tremendously, as now these programs would have an equal credential associated to them as it used to be with the regular programs , earlier.
Another fact that cannot be ignored is that this recent development is not only going to impact the education pattern of the students only, but also the life of those who always wished to have a regular degree, but couldn’t secure the same due to personal or professional constraints.
The way now education, and the credentials attached to an individual would be looked upon, is going to be extremely different from what it used to be till the time this new development came into being. Moreover, it is also needless to mention that amongst the many cities like Meerut, Modinagar, Noida, Delhi etc, which happen to be the education hubs of the northern and western part of India, a steep increase in the enrollment of distance education programs can be expected in the coming years.
So, if you are a student, an employee, or even a housewife, there is nothing left now for you to think before getting yourself enrolled in a distance education program, as now the education sector, has extended its wings to treat all modes of education equal.
